It was after a drop in the largest Moutain Bike marathon in the world, in Cape Town, South Africa, that actor Rodrigo Hilbert, 45, had to undergo surgery. He recorded a special report for Spectacular Sport (Globo).

Hilbert fell on the second day of the race and hit the butt, but kept riding. After a few days, however, he began to feel severe pain and had to be attended. He was diagnosed with an abscess at the site of the fall and had to undergo a hurry to surgery.

According to explanation of Dr. Caio Focassio, vascular surgeon and member of the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, abscess is the accumulation of pus (purulent exudate) in a region of the body, resulting from a local infection.

“When it occurs in the skin or subcutaneous tissue, the affected area usually has redness (hyperemia), swelling, pain and, in more severe cases, there may be fever,” comments the expert.

According to him, treatment usually involves surgical drainage and antibiotic use. “When drainage is performed correctly and the body responds well to medication, recovery is usually fast,” he says.

According to Globo, Rodrigo is already in Brazil and recovers well. The presenter is married to Fernanda Lima, 47, with whom he has three children.
