One hundred and fifty years of contribution to Greek education in Constantinople is completing this year’s Zappeion School and this was celebrated yesterday, May 21, with an event honored by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

It is memorable that in 1879, just four years after its establishment, Zappeion was recognized by the Greek Council of Greece as an equal to Arsakeio. In the kindergarten, the elementary and high school/high school of the Zappeion, from 1875 to 1980, 28,713 students. The school year 1961-62 had Zappeion 835 students. And the School of the School, which operated from 1885/86 to 1923/24, gave the education of 420 teachers.
The Zappeion Girls’ School of Constantinople was founded by the sponsorship of Constantine Zappa and has been operating since 1875. It is housed in a six -storey historic building, on the side of the Church of the Holy Trinity, not only for the homogeneity but also the whole of Constantinople. It is the work of architect Ioannis Ioannides. For several years it has been operating as a mixed school, housing kindergarten, elementary school, high school and high school. Along with the other two schools, the Zografio and the Great School of the School, is one of the three pillars of Greek education in Constantinople.

At the event at the Zappeion Ceremony Hall, children of the kindergarten and elementary school recited poems and sang, while the eldest pupils and students of the Gymnasium and High School presented a small theatrical performance.
The female choir of the Holy Metropolis of Naples and Stavroupoli “Agia Kassiani the Hymnographer”, under the direction of Ms. Maria Charalambidou and singer Violeta Ikari, also participated in the anniversary concert.
