Actor Vin Diesel, known worldwide for the “Fast and Furious” franchise, had a partial victory in the United States court this week. A California Court has decided to reject four of the accusations of labor discrimination filed by his former assistant, Asta Jonasson. However, other more serious accusations, such as sexual aggression and unfair dismissal, continue active in the process.

According to Variety, the action was filed in 2023 and claims that in 2010 Diesel would have trapped Jonasson against a wall in a hotel suite and masturbated before her. The episode, written in the complaint, occurred during a professional commitment. Although the case reassembled over a decade, the former employee was able to file the action thanks to a new California State Law.

Sanctioned in 2023 by Governor Gavin Newsom, the law of sexual abuse and liability for cover -up allows victims to submit allegations of sexual aggression that occurred between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2022, even if they have already passed the traditional prescription deadline.

On the other hand, Judge Daniel M. Crowley understood that this legislative change does not apply to all aspects of the process. He decided that in the case of allegations based on California’s Justice and Housing Law (known as Feha), the former assistant lost the deadline to submit an administrative complaint to the State Civil Rights Department-a must for this type of action.

“The author’s claims under Feha are prescribed because she has not exhausted her administrative resources in a timely manner,” wrote the magistrate in the decision, achieved by Variety, rendered last Tuesday (3).

With this, accusations of discrimination, harassment in the work environment and retaliation were filed. Reports of sexual aggression, unfair dismissal, negligent supervision and emotional suffering – these do not require the prior stage in the state agency and follow under judicial analysis.

Throughout the process, Vin Diesel’s lawyers have vehemently denied all charges. “There is clear evidence that completely refutes these absurd allegations,” said lawyer Bryan Freedman, when the case came to light in 2023.
