After controversy, gym does not invite Karla Sofa Gasco to vote for the Oscar

The Hollywood Hollywood Cinematographic Academy, responsible for the Oscar, announced the list with 534 new voting members of the entity. While Fernanda Torres, nominated for the best actress statuette in 2025, figure in the listing, the Spanish Karla Sofía Gascon was left out.

Involved in various controversies throughout the awards season, Gasco-first transmitted woman in Oscar for her performance in “Emilia Perez”-became a kind of grateful persona to the academy after the revelation of old posts in the X, in which he attacked minorities and even criticized the Oscar ceremony. At the height of the controversy, she was even removed from the campaign of the film by Netflix.

The actress commented: “I can only keep working, putting all my soul in the characters I interpret and demonstrating, in my personal life, that I have nothing to do with the negative image that some planned to create from me,” said Karla Gasco to the EFE agency.

She denounced that she was the target of a “hatred campaign”: “You have never heard anything from my mouth against someone because of the color of your skin or any movement that tries to undermine the rights of any human or minority,” he added.

Oscar -nominated artists are usually invited to join the organization the following year. In addition to Brazilian Fernanda Torres, other names that competed in 2025 and now have the right to vote at the Oscar are: Ariana Grande, Mikey Madison (won the category of best actress for the movie “Anora”), Monica Barbaro, Kieran Culkin, Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong.

Members of the “I’m still here” team were also invited, such as photography director Adrian Teijido (born in Argentina but naturalized Brazilian), costume designer Claudia Kopke, writer Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega, and producers Daniela Thomas and Maria Carlota Bruno.

Complete the list of Brazilians who will vote for the Oscar from 2026 directors Daniel Filho and Gabriel Mascaro, as well as documentary filmmaker Eliza Capai.
