Meghan Markle celebrates holiday with Harry and children: ‘Our second meeting was on this date’

Meghan Markle, 43, took advantage of the July 4th holiday to celebrate United States Independence Day alongside Prince Harry, 40, and the couple’s children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet Diana, 4.

The Duchess used social networks to share a moment of the family and revealed that the date has a special meaning: marks the couple’s second meeting, still at the beginning of the love story between former American actress and British prince.

“Our second meeting was on July 4, 2016 and H brought me cupcakes to celebrate. Now, after so many years, our two children follow tradition. Happy Independence Day! May your day be as sweet as these cupcakes,” wrote Meghan, showing that the gesture has become part of family traditions.

The celebration, which was entitled to themed sweets with the colors of the American flag, rescues an affective memory of when their relationship was still kept confidential. The couple would only officially confirm their dating months later.

Independence Day is one of the most emblematic dates on the US calendar. Celebrated since 1776, she marks the signing of the statement that officialized the separation of the thirteen colonies from British dominance. The holiday, for many, is a symbol of freedom – in which Meghan’s case, who saw in the US the chance to build a new life away from the protocols of the monarchy.

Since they officially left the duties of the British royal family in January 2020, Meghan and Harry have lived in California. The decision for removal also made them give up securities and benefits linked to royalty, including official protection paid with public resources. The change of country and the break with the British crown even motivated the prince to publish a revealing biography, where Harry reports the institution’s internal conflicts and the weight of growing in the shadow of his brother, William.
