Marcelo Rubens Paiva, author of “I’m Still Here”, broke my leg on a TAP flight between Sao Paulo and Porto, last Tuesday (1st). The writer is in Portugal to participate in literary fairs in Porto, Aveiro, Barcellos and Oeiras.

According to Globo, Marcelo crashed in an armchair. He pushed a button to stretch his legs, but the mechanism worked abruptly, holding the writer’s leg under the front armchair.

The writer, who is quadriplegic because of an accident he suffered in his teens, told Carioca newspaper that he received medical attention at the airport, but was released to return home. Days later, however, he felt a lot of swelling in his leg and went to the hospital. An X-ray exam found that he had broken two bones, the tibia and the peronium.

The writer did not have to be operated, but has a leg immobilized. He says he had to cancel some commitments in Portugal. The schedule of lectures at literary fairs, however, will be fulfilled normally.

Paiva was sought by F5but has not responded so far. In his social networks, the writer posted a photo in which he appears with his leg in a cast. “Let’s smile,” he wrote.
