British singer Marina, 36, – who used the name Marina and the Diamonds, and performed at Lollapalooza Brasil last Friday (25) – took to Twitter to criticize the request for a ban on political demonstrations during concerts at the festival, accepted by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
“Censorship is still alive and well. Bolsonaro’s lawyers have filed a petition with the Supreme Electoral Court to stop artists from making ‘political demonstrations’, due to me and 2 other artists voicing their opinions on Lolla,” she wrote. on the social network this Tuesday (29), mentioning the moments of his show in which he cursed Putin and Bolsonaro on stage.
“Many of us are tired of these old men who think they own the countries they ‘lead’,” he continued in another tweet. “They don’t own anything. And they are weaker than we think. When people feel they have no power, they try to take it away from others.”
Minister Raul Araújo ruled on Saturday (26) that demonstrations in favor of or against any candidate or political party were prohibited at the Loollapalooza festival, under penalty of a R$50,000 fine.
In the decision, Araújo partially accepted a request from Bolsonaro’s campaign, made on the morning of the same day after the political demonstrations of Pabllo Vittar and singer Marina.
Lawyers for the PL had also asked for Lollapalooza to be convicted of early electoral propaganda, a request that was not accepted.
Higher court ministers believe the order’s wording can be interpreted as censorship. There is a fear that the TSE will end up being delegitimized in this process, which started the articulation to reverse the injunction.
In response, Lollapalooza’s production company, T4F, filed a request for reconsideration with the TSE on Sunday afternoon. In the document sent to the electoral court, the festival’s defense claims they have no way of enforcing the order that “prohibits expressions of political preference” and says it cannot act as a private censor, “controlling and prohibiting the content” of the speeches.
