Those of us who use a kettle are in this position every day. We have opened the kettle for a tea or coffee and we do not know what to do while we wait for the water to boil.
While you can just stand around and fool around with your cell phone or take a few minutes to wash the dishes left in the sink, much of the time is wasted wandering aimlessly.
Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with devoting those few minutes of the day to fooling around, just sitting around doing nothing or staring at the ceiling meaninglessly. But what if this time could be spent doing things you never imagined you could do in such a short time?
Writer and home decor expert Laura de Barra made it a reality by talking about the 15 things you can do at home while the water in the kettle is boiling.
In the Twitter thread, which won over 5,000 likes, Laura de Barra showed the list of things you can do in the time it takes for a kettle to boil water, and you will be surprised.
De Barra begins by saying that those who have a dishwasher can remove the filter and rinse it during this wait. “Pour a cup of vinegar in one case, a cup of baking soda in the other and choose a warm wash,” he writes. “It will clean, it will smell better and it will reduce the salts in the places you see and in the ones you do not see. “This is something you can do once a month.”
He then suggests removing the hood filter and washing it, unless it is disposable. As you head to the fridge to get this bottle of milk, de Barra suggests taking a minute to check that the drain hole is clean. Advise people to add two cups of baking soda and a cup of vinegar for cleansing. “They will trigger a foaming reaction that will loosen anything stuck in the pipes and cause odors or blockages later.”
Now, if you’re looking for something more enjoyable to do while waiting for the water to boil, De Barra suggests building a greenhouse for your herbs in the fridge, which he says will “make them last ten times longer”.
Other suggestions include controlling the smoke alarm, removing the washing machine drawer to clean it. Add that you can also change a light bulb that you did not have time to change. Many shared their thoughts on these tips and how they will use these hacks in the future.
“Nice practical advice, thank you. “I recently bought a new dishwasher and the seller told me that many people never clean theirs and as a result their machines break down,” one user commented, while another wrote: “I found my people! So far, I’ve thoroughly cleaned my oven with bicarbonate / vinegar and the washing machine. “
A third said: “I often spend this time doing nothing, so it’s nice to know that I have the choice to do some of these handy things at home when I feel like it.”
