Emma Stone, 36, has been drawing attention in recent public appearances, such as the premiere of the movie “Eddington” in June in Los Angeles, United States for showing a very short haircut. The new look has explanation: the actress scraped the wires to “Bugonia”, her upcoming film in partnership with Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos – the same as “poor creatures” (2024), which earned her the second best actress Oscar. The first time was in 2017, for its role in “La La Land”.
The detail was revealed by Emma herself in an interview with Vogue Americana, published on Monday (11). The scene where the character has shaved hair will be in the movie and was made for real, with actor Jesse Plemons – his castmate – handling the machine.
In “Bugonia”, Stone plays the CEO of a pharmaceutical industry kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists, lived by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis. In the plot, they believe it is necessary to cut the hostage hair and perform the act in the back seat of a stolen car. The trailer shows the actress’s real locks spread across the floor and being burned.
To keep the secret, Emma even wearing wigs right after filming. When the wires grew a little, it took over the new cut at events. The actress said she cried moments before the scene for remembering her mother, who scraped her hair years ago during her treatment against breast cancer. “She really did something brave. I’m just scraping her head,” he said.
Despite the emotion, the experience turned out to be positive: “Is there no better feeling in the world. The first bath after shaving my head? My God is amazing,” he said, remembering the sensation of hot water on the scalp.
Not everyone supported the idea immediately. Jennifer Lawrence, a close friend of Emma, told Vogue that she tried to discourage her. “I really didn’t want her to scrape her head,” he said, mentioning I already saw her friend with short wires in 2017. But after checking the result, she changed her mind: “Honestly, she was beautiful. She rocked.”
Bugonia debuts on October 30 in Brazil, in the same month of launch in the United States.
