Agios Ioannis Korinthias: The village of 400 hospitable inhabitants – Watch video

by

At a distance of 27 km from the city of Corinth, we meet the village of Agios Ioannis. It is one of the mountain villages of the area, at an altitude of 660 meters. It is built under the high peaks of the mountains, in a verdant area with all kinds of trees and many crops.

About 400 inhabitants live permanently in the village, who are mainly engaged in animal husbandry. The houses of the village are built based on the traditional architecture, they are made of stone and have large courtyards and orchards.

Every corner is very well cared for, it has flowers, benches for passers-by to stand on, fountains with crystal clear water and narrow cobbled streets.

A meeting point for young and old in the summer months is the village square with the tall trees that generously offer their shade.

Its inhabitants are very hospitable and always willing to tell you about the history of their place that is lost over the centuries.

The cultural association of Agios Ioannis, which has more than 40 years of operation, deals with the organization of cultural and sports events but also maintains a website with rare visual material from the village and its people.

The church of the village is dedicated to Agios Ioannis and was built at the end of the last century.

In the villages of the area we find a wide variety of wines from the local vineyards, the famous raisin, herbs, aromatic plants, olive oil, olives, traditional drinks and honey.

The distinguished Professor of Physics of the University of Iowa, Costas Soukoulis, comes from this village.
