About the documentary:
In the documentary, Takis Prostakis, founder of the famous Takis Shelter shelter in Crete, tells his story: after selling his nightclub in Ierapetra, he finds some puppies observed in a garbage dump and decides to act. Gradually, it takes care of more and more stray animals, while trying to awaken the local community. Although it is confronted with challenges daily, Takis’ vision becomes a symbol of hope for the animals around the world. Having gained their confidence and support, it has now managed to create a model animal shelter, which is visited by people from every part of the globe daily. To date, about 2,500 damaged dogs have been rescued and 1,500 have been adopted, mainly abroad. More information on the refuge and the ways you can support: https://takisshelter.org/

A few words about cinedoc
Cinedoc features and distributes award -winning Greek and foreign documentaries. The screenings are organized as part of the Cinedoc Documentary Festival, in collaboration with the Danao Cinema and the Summer Cinema of Annecy, the French Institute, the Hellenic Cinema, the Cinedoc Volos under the auspices of the Municipality of Volos and with the support of the Region of Thessaly – P. Magnesia and North Sporades, the Municipality of Larissa, the Thessaloniki Film Festival (“Pavlos Zannas” and “Stavros Tornes”) and the “Point” Cultural Area in Rethymnon.
The festival takes place every year from September to April on the main Cinedoc network, with the presentation of new films, about once a month.
The aim of the festival is to highlight the documentary as one of the most powerful forms of art. More than any other cinematic genre, it has the power to inspire, to change our perceptions, to influence our lifestyle and behavior. Cinedoc seeks to strengthen this dynamic relationship with the public, cultivate participation in cultural and social activities, and bring local communities into substantial contact with the creators of the projects presented.
At the same time, Cinedoc is constantly expanding its distribution network through documentary screenings both in the Greek islands (Cyclades, Sporades, Ionian and Dodecanese under Cinedoc Island) and in the rest of Greece. Each year, he participates in the co -organization and support of regional documentary screenings, in collaboration with cultural and environmental organizations, film clubs, consulting centers, institutions, cinemas, municipalities and more. Parallel and regional projections take place throughout the year.
Sponsor of the Cinedoc 2025-2026 Documentary Festival is the Hellenic Center for Film, Audiovisual Media and Creation (EKKOED) – Creative Greece.
