Cleopatra remained in history as one of the most powerful and captivating queens.

Now, explorers say they are closer than ever to the discovery of her lost tomb – who may be under water.

In particular, a submerged port has been identified in the depths of the Mediterranean, about two miles away from the coast of Ancient Alexandria.

The port, at a depth of about 12 meters, can lead to its traces.

Cleopatra, who ruled Egypt since 51 BC. By 30 BC, she used her beauty and sexual magnetism to achieve her goals. Her life was marked by her many lovers, including Julius Caesar and Mark Antonios. Cleopatra and Antonios committed suicide and buried together. But for over 2,000 years, the place of their last rest remains unknown.

so

The submerged port was once associated with Taposiris Magna, a historic city that hosted an ancient temple dedicated to Osiris, the god of death.

Explorer Kathleen Martinez, who has been looking for Cleopatra’s tomb for many years, discovered the port in a new series of native research with Bob Ballard, who participated in the Titanic research. The port, which was linked to the temple, may be “key” to the location of the tomb. Ancient finds include columns, stone floors and scattered amphorae – the tall containers used to transport wine.

According to Martinez, it is simply a “issue of time” to find the tomb, as she has been investigating Taposiris Magna since October 2005.

“After 2,000 years, no one has ever gone there,” he told National Geographic.

“We are the first.”

LETTER

In 2022, she and her team had discovered a 1,300 -meter -long tunnel, dug into layers of rock under the ruins of Taposiris Magna. Inside the tunnel, ceramic containers and vessels were found from the time of the Ptolemaic dynasty, whose last ruler was the last ruler. Martinez believes that Cleopatra was transferred to Taposiris Magna after her death, through the underground tunnel to the port, where he was buried.

Terrible

The tunnel shows “directly” to the port, indicating that it is perhaps part of a secret network. However, the expert does not exclude the possibility that the tomb is somewhere in the ruins of the temple, which has been the main case to date.

“No one can tell me that Cleopatra is not in Taposiris Magna,” the researcher says.

“To say that, you have to dig the whole area and not find it.”

lies

Cleopatra was the last Pharaoh of Egypt and Governor of Ptolemaic Basil since 51 BC. Until her death in 30 BC, at the age of just 39, after her defeat in Roman civil wars. She used her charm to first seduce Julius Caesar, securing Egypt’s alliance with Rome, and then his successor to Marco Antonio. In order to stabilize their position in the minds of the Egyptian people, Cleopatra tried to associate herself and Antonius with the myth of Isis and Osiris.

According to legend, Osiris was killed and cut. His pieces were scattered throughout Egypt. Isis, after finding all the pieces, linked them and temporarily resurrected him. Martinez believes that the queen designed a plan so that her and her lover’s bodies were found in a place where the Romans would never think of looking for.

3T3T3

She had to choose a place where she would feel safe for her posthumous life with Marco Antonius, as she revealed to National Geographic.

More than 2,000 years later, whatever the plan of Cleopatra, it seems to still work.

A new documentary titled “The Last Secret of Cleopatra”, covering diving, will premiere at National Geographic on Thursday, September 25th and will be available the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
