Presenter Ana Maria Braga, 73, started the Mais Você (Globo) program this Monday (4) with a protest against the 10.89% readjustment of drug prices in Brazil. She appeared wearing a necklace made from medicine packaging.
“I can’t help but protest against the increase in the price of medicines”, said the presenter, who started the program with the anthem of Palmeiras, who won the Paulista football championship this Sunday (3). “Just when you think I’ve used up everything here, now it’s time for medicine to become a luxury item for such a deprived population,” she added.
Then, Ana Maria gave some tips for viewers to learn about health plans that offer discounts on the purchase of medicines. In addition, she also said it is important to research prices before buying the drug.
The Federal Government’s Cmed (Medicine Market Regulation Chamber) authorized a 10.89% readjustment in medicines, and the increase, which was published in the Federal Official Gazette last Friday (1st), is already in effect and can be applied at any time in pharmacies and drugstores.
In the last week, pharmacists were already warning their customers that the price of medicines would soon rise. The industry, however, claims that the new values should be applied in mid-April because of inventories.
Specialists, on the other hand, advise patients of continuous use to buy medicines as soon as possible, take advantage of discount programs from the federal government, pharmacies and laboratories, and search a lot for lower values and promotions.
Recently, the presenter appeared on her Instagram using a gas cylinder bag. “Luxury bag,” she wrote in the caption. The hashtags used by the presenter make it clear that this is yet another criticism of the new prices of products in Brazil. One of them even says: “Brazil has gotten worse”.
At the beginning of March, the average price of the cylinder reached R$ 150 and resellers began to pay the amount in up to ten installments on the credit card, according to Robson Carneiro dos Santos, president of Sergás (Sindicato das Empresas Resendedoras de Gás).
Previously, Ana Maria had already presented Mais Você with a necklace of carrots to protest against the abusive prices of vegetables and other foods.
