George Zoe’s second feature film, Arcadia, premiered at Berlinale 2024 and recently won the Best Director Award at the Sarajevo Festival.

The rationale of the decision

According to the Ministry of Culture, the film is proposed with a consent of an 11 -member committee, which is set up exclusively for this purpose.

The rationale was that it was a film that bears a distinctive mark, without lag behind the parameter of Greekness.

It represents modern Greek cinema and enjoys international visibility because of its participation in major international festivals. Deputy Minister of Culture Iason Fotilas accepted the Commission’s opinion and issued the decision.

The members of the Commission are appointed by the Ministry of Culture upon their suggestion by film institutions. For the year 2025 the Commission was set up with no. Ministry of Culture/341673/24.07.2025 of the Deputy Minister of Culture and after a thorough discussion, he had a majority opinion in favor of the Arkadia film work as the official candidacy of Greece.
