Its representatives Britney Spears responded to the disturbing statements of her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, in his new book titled “You Thought You Knew”. The 47-year-old dancer and DJ was married to the 43-year-old pop star from 2004 to 2007. They have two sons: 20-year-old Sean Preston and 19-year-old Jayden James.

In an excerpt from Federline’s book, published by The New York Times, he claims that his then-teenage sons were afraid to stay at their mother’s house. “Sometimes they would wake up in the night and see her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep with a knife in her hand”he writes. “Then he would turn and leave without any explanation”.

In response to the allegations, Britney Spears’ spokesperson told The Independent newspaper: “With the release of Kevin Federline’s book, once again he and others are taking advantage of her and, unfortunately, this is after Kevin has terminated child support.”

“All she cares about is her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being in the midst of this scandal. She describes her journey in detail in her book”adds her spokesperson.

In the pop singer’s 2023 autobiography, “The Woman in Me,” which is being adapted into the movie, the “Toxic” singer writes that her ex-husband refused to let her see her sons and “tried to convince everyone that I was completely out of control” as part of his bid to gain full custody.

“I was never, ever, against Britney”Federline told The New York Times. “I only tried to help my sons have a great relationship with their mother. And it’s hard, because when I really think about everything that’s happened, my kids don’t know the woman I married. And I’ve spent two decades trying to bridge that gap.”

Britney Spears placed under guardianship after mental breakdown and psychiatric hospitalization. Federline was awarded primary custody of their children, while the artist has supervised visitation rights. Her ex-husband then married Victoria Prince, with whom he has two daughters.

Britney has tried to get more time with her children over the years, and in 2019 she was awarded 30% custody, while her ex-husband kept 70%. Her guardianship was terminated in 2021 amid a “Free Britney” fan movement after a judge ruled she was “no longer needed”. However, in the years that followed, the artist continued to exhibit erratic behavior on social media.

“All these people who put so much effort into the Free Britney movement”writes Federline in his memoirs, “They should now put the same energy into the ‘Save Britney’ movement. Because it’s not about freedom anymore. It’s about survival.”
