The “American Idiot” of Green Day was named the most important rock and metal album of the 21st century in the United Kingdom, according to the Official Charts Society. The punk rock band’s seventh album topped the charts with its politically charged album, which includes the hits “American Idiot”, “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends”.

Released in September 2004, the album rocketed to the top of the UK album charts. It has since sold over 2.6 million based on combined UK sales and streams.

Green Day stated: “We recorded American Idiot as a deeply human statement of defiance – against fear, against lies, against apathy. But also as a character-based concept album.”

“It was dangerous, it was noisy, it was personal – and it changed everything for us. Twenty years later, the fact that it still resonates means a lot to the world, and we’re very proud that it continues to inspire people everywhere.” they underlined.

Green Day have been nominated for 19 Grammy Awards and have won four, including Best Rock Album in 2005 for ‘American Idiot’ and again in 2010 for ’21st Century Breakdown’, Record of the Year in 2006 for ‘Boulevard Of Broken Dreams’ and Best Alternative Performance with Dookie in 1995.
