The legendary director Francis Ford Coppola auctioned off seven watches from his personal collection after his latest film didn’t make the money he expected.
The 86-year-old Oscar-winning director has put his personal belongings up for auction at Phillips Auction House, which will hold the sale on December 6 and 7 in New York, People reports.

The sale of the items will help Coppola recoup some of the money he lost on last year’s “Megalopolis,” which cost more than $120 million and grossed just $14.3 million worldwide. The director chose to finance his project himself, instead of working with a studio.
Among the watches that will soon be up for sale is a one-of-a-kind timepiece designed by Coppola in collaboration with the famous watchmaker, François-Paul Journe, and priced at one million euros.
“I remember one time I took 130 blank pages and put a title in bold font boldly announcing Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis”he had revealed himself in “Vanity Fair”.
Inspired by Herbert George Wells’ Things to Come, Coppola’s epic takes place in a New York City-like metropolis in the wake of a disaster. Adam Driver plays an idealistic architect who wants to rebuild the city into something greater than what it was. Giancarlo Esposito is the corrupt mayor of the town who wants to keep things the way they were.
“I wasn’t really working on this script for 40 years, but rather I was collecting notes and scraps for a scrapbook of things I found interesting for a future script, or examples of political cartoons or different historical themes,” he added.
