When Sarah Vaughan’s book Anatomy of a Scandal was released in 2018, everyone was convinced that it was a story that sprang from the covers of newspapers. This year, Netflix brings this story to our screens, reminding us how important the #MeToo movement is in politics.
The Anatomy of a Scandal concerns the extramarital affair of a British minister
James Whitehouse at first seems to have it all. He has a wonderful, loving wife, his children and the job he has always dreamed of. However, a scandal breaks out and the collapse of James’s wonderful image begins. It is known that he had an extramarital affair with a young member of his office, Olivia, and the woman’s trust is naturally shaken. Things get much worse when this relationship ends up being charged with rape.
The scandal is slowly shaking not only the lives of James and his family, but also shaking the entire English political scene. James is, as expected, being taken to court, and is forced to face charges against him while at the same time insisting on his innocence.
The courtrooms have never been so crowded again
Much of the series takes place in the courtrooms, where the truth is about to be revealed. On the one hand, James’s wife tries to assert his innocence and stand by him. On the other hand, the prosecutor in the case is convinced that James is guilty. So the story is gradually transferred to the level between the two women who are trying to be led to the truth.
The creator of the series is the man behind Big Little Lies
Based on this, we already know that we are waiting for a tense, political, psychological thriller that will test our resilience to truth and lies. The series stars Siena Miller, Michelle Dockery, and Rupert Friend as James Whitehouse.
Anatomy of a Scandal will be released on Netflix on April 15.
