The educational & social activities of the National Opera in collaboration with the Embassy of Indonesia in Greece present the first ensemble of traditional Indonesian music in Greece, the Gamellan Orchestra, in a unique concert on Sunday 17 April at 20.00 at the Parnassos Philological Association.
The Gamellan Orchestra will give us a magical afternoon in tropical Indonesia performing traditional Gamellan music pieces from the island of Java. The program also includes a new composition by Andis Skordis, head of the orchestra, which is expected to give a new form and style to the traditional music of Indonesia.
Admission for the public is free with entrance tickets, which will be distributed from April 14, at 12.00, exclusively through ticket services.
A few words about the Gamellan Orchestra
The Gamellan Orchestra, which was cut short by the pandemic, is continuing its tour of traditional Javanese music this year. Guided by the composer Andis Skordis, he seeks new harmonious worlds through the unexpected conversation of the Gamellan music tradition with a repertoire of contemporary classical music.

A few words about Andis Skordis
Antis Skordis was born in Cyprus in 1983. He is a composer of contemporary music with a rich ethnography, which includes operas, symphonic works, chamber music, Gamellan pieces, music for theater, dance and short films. He is also the founder of the contemporary music group “PATSIAOURA”, plays the guitar with Monsieur Doumani and is involved in free improvisation. He has received numerous awards, most recently the Black Pencil Prize 2020, while this year he is one of the two finalists for the Berlin Opera Prize 2022.
