Watching the trailer of the new series The Staircase, you refuse to believe that the plot is based on a true story. And yet, the story between Colin Firth and Toni Collette is beyond real.
In the series, Michael and Kathleen have a seemingly quiet life
They both raise their two children calmly. In fact, Michael works as a writer of mystery and crime stories with great success in his bibliography. And while everything is going smoothly, one day, in December 2001, Michael calls the police and claims that his wife died as he fell down the stairs. From the very first moments that the police arrive at his house, we see their distrust.
Further investigations will automatically begin to determine whether this is a crime or not. The story is one of those that monopolized the interest of the media at that time, until the truth was finally revealed. Those who know the truth about Michael Peterson also know the outcome. But this does not mean that it is not worth watching the events from the beginning, through it The Staircase.
A series with 8 episodes and three different time periods
The Staircase may seem a bit complicated because of the way it is structured. The story unfolds in three different times at the same time. First, we look at the days before Kathleen’s murder, then what follows and the course to the trial and the revelation of the truth, but also what is happening in the present.
So Colin Firth may have played real people, many times in the past, but he certainly has not played a cool killer in a crime story. He even needed many months of preparation to achieve the result that we will see this year on our screens. So get a taste of the crime we are waiting for, and prepare for many upheavals in the case.
The series will be released in May on HBO Max.
