Years after rapper Mac Miller (1992-2018) died from an overdose, Ryan Michael Reavis, 39, one of the men who admitted selling fentanyl pills to the musician, was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Monday. (19).
In 2019, a year after the rapper’s death, Reavis had confessed that he was the middleman in the deals that provided the singer with counterfeit oxycodone. However, he still claims that he did not know that the drugs were altered.
According to Rolling Stone, the sentence is still less than what prosecutors asked for, who requested 12 years and six months. However, the penalty is still greater than recommended by officials. Mac Miller’s cause of death was given as a combination of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol.
“My life went dark the moment Malcolm left his world. Malcolm was my person more than a son. He would never knowingly take a fentanyl pill, ever. He wanted to live and he was excited about the future. The hole in mine heart will always be there,” said the rapper’s mother.
At the time of the artist’s death, singer Ariana Grande, 28, Mac Miller’s ex-girlfriend, was very shaken by the rapper’s death and announced a career break. “Given the events of the past few years, Ariana will be taking the much-needed time to care for and heal,” read a statement sent to People magazine.
“She will be staying close to her home and will use this time to spend time with her loved ones and working on new music with no deadlines. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
In a message on her official Instagram account, Ariana also stated her feelings about the singer. She said she “adored” Miller from the day she met him, when she was 19. “You were my dearest friend. For so long,” she wrote.
