João Vicente de Castro was one of the liveliest in Nosso Camarote, on the first day of the Rio Special Group parades.
For him, Carnival 2020 was the last big event before the pandemic stopped the world. “It’s really crazy because two years ago it was all happening, and we pretended it wasn’t,” he said. The resumption is now, in his view, a milestone. “Seeing these people vaccinated, without a mask, being able to enjoy, with the situation under control, is the moment of the century”, he said.
João Vicente was looking forward to seeing the São Clemente parade, which paid tribute to comedian Paulo Gustavo. “It’s a tough time, but one of celebration,” he said.
For him, the year 2022 is one of “readaptation”. “But I’m confident that we’ll be able to get this person [o presidente Jair Bolsonaro] that I don’t even know how to describe that he’s in power,” he said. “But the fight is not won. The fight cannot stop,” she continued.
