British actress Jameela Jamil, 35, who has been on series like “The Good Place” (NBC), announced on Tuesday (26) that she will leave Twitter. The reason is the purchase of the social network, carried out by billionaire Elon Musk, 50, for US$ 44 billion dollars, around R$ 214 billion, at the current price.
“Oh, he has Twitter,” began the artist. “I wish this was my last tweet. Really any excuse to show pictures of Barold,” she added, who shared a sequence of photos of her pet dog.
“I fear that this offer of free speech will help this hellish platform to reach its final form of totally lawless hatred, bigotry and misogyny. Good luck.” Musk had said he would like to buy the social network to restore the platform’s adherence to free speech principles.
This Monday (25), she had already shown that she would leave the network if the tycoon bought her. “One good thing about Elon buying Twitter is that I’m finally going to quit and stop being a complete threat to society here. So it’s a win for you all really,” she tweeted.
The billionaire describes himself as an absolutist of free speech and has even argued that making the social network a privately held company would be a way to guarantee the free flow of ideas. “I hope even my most critical critics will stay on Twitter because this is what free speech is all about,” Musk tweeted Monday.
