Alec Baldwin case: Armeira says producers disallowed security measures

The person in charge of overseeing the weapons used in shooting Western “Rust” said the producers had allowed an “unsafe” film set and had rejected her requests for training and other measures. On Oct. 21, a shot accidentally fired by actor Alec Baldwin, 63, killed director of photography Halyna Hutchins, 42.

Hannah Gutierrez’s lawyers, 24, issued the first statement in her name on Thursday night (28), a week after Baldwin’s shooting that killed Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust” outside Santa Fe, Novo Mexico.

Security is the “number one priority” for Gutierrez, who was hired as a gunsmith and assistant master of scenic objects, according to a statement by attorneys Jason Bowles and Robert Gorence.

Taking on both roles “has made it extremely difficult to concentrate on his job as a gunsmith,” the statement said, adding that Gutierrez struggled to get training, days of gun maintenance and time to prepare shooting scenes.

Gutierrez “turned out to be disallowed by the production and his department,” said his lawyers.

“The entire production set became unsafe due to a number of factors, including the lack of safety meetings,” they added. “This wasn’t Hannah’s fault.”

Santa Fe authorities are investigating the incident and say they have not ruled out criminal charges. The central question is how real ammunition got into the Colt revolver used by Baldwin.
