If you were told that there is a slum in the heart of Vouliagmeni that occupies a piece of land of incalculable commercial value with its own amazing beach whose name is Karagiozis then many of you would surely question it.
And yet this unknown neighborhood that is known to the few who know it as “Shacks” is a real hidden paradise that is definitely worth visiting since your access to it is free.
The shacks of Vouliagmeni hide a great history behind them as in fact it is an abandoned holiday settlement.

Arriving at shacks of Vouliagmeni sees an old sign with the inscription “Archdiocese of Athens – Ecclesiastical Orphanage of Vouliagmeni”.
An asphalt paved road leads to a pine-covered area where about 35 wooden houses “survive”. Some are in better condition, while in others the roof has collapsed. As long as we follow the road we reach the most privileged. In those that have a view and access to the sea… Either on the sandy beach or on the rocks that are ideal for diving…
