Purple cave: The hidden “diamond” of Evia – Video from above

by

In the maps you mention our homeland as Greece, but in reality it is the most beautiful country in the world and this hitherto unknown attraction – natural monument is another great proof.

When we found this natural monument on Google Maps (Purple Cave of Mesochorion we just could not believe our eyes. is it possible to be completely unknown to the general public?

We did not think about it for a moment and we organized an excursion as soon as possible in order to record it. Our mission was not that easy we have done all these years as we needed a special off-road vehicle (it is worth noting that we finally tried it with a simple conventional vehicle and God helper) but in the end it was worth it since it would not be It is an exaggeration to say that if it is not the most beautiful we have filmed all these years, it is definitely one of the top 5.

A few words about the Purple Cave in South Evia.

In its northern underwater wall there are purple algae, from which we got its name. It is a doline by the sea with two underwater entrances. Its size is 15 meters wide and 25 meters long (measurements from google earth). The height from the water surface is about 20 meters the lowest and about 25 meters the highest.

See how it is inside the cave:

There is a relatively easy access to the water surface (using a rope for safety). The bottom of the cave is divided into two parts, the land which you reach by descending and the lake. The lake has almost the same dimensions as the cave (length, width) and depth ranging from 10m to about 20 meters.

One end of the lake, towards the sea, joins it at two points. The first is a large arch 15 meters deep and the second is a narrow slit 3 meters deep.

The other end of the lake, towards the mountain, seemed to continue underwater (sandy bottom), so a cave dive took place, from which it emerged that it continues only for about 5 meters. In general, the Purple Cave is a magical destination that is worth visiting. Pay attention only to the safety measures that you will need to take as both the Cave of each one and the wider area are inaccessible and the winds from the Aegean are usually blowing furiously.
