Eurovision 2022: Ukraine is the favorite with “Stefania” by Kalush Orchestra

by

Ukraine’s participation in this year Eurovision has begun to gain ground in the preferences of Europeans and it is possible to claim victory with claims.

The song Stefania from the band Kalush Orchestra combines melodic elements with rap and since the beginning of the war in Ukraine has become an informal anthem of the country.

“The song was written long before the war and was dedicated to my mother. After the invasion and the war, it took on other dimensions and many people began to identify it with Ukraine as a motherland. “It is now in the hearts of many Ukrainians and its popularity and symbolism has increased significantly,” said singer Olech Psyuk.

Of course this year’s presence of Ukraine in Eurovision of Turin has a strong symbolism and in the middle of the war the Ukrainians show that they can create compositions that mix traditional with modern sounds.

“We show that Ukrainian culture and the Ukrainian national code are here. Our goal is to promote Ukrainian music not only in our country but throughout Europe. “And Eurovision is the best way to do that,” said Olech Psiuk.

Ukraine has won the competition twice in the past.

In 2004 with Ruslana and Wild Dances and in 2016 with the song «1944» and singer Jamala.

The lyrics of that song narrated the expulsion of the Crimean Tatars from the Soviets in the 1940s and were another participation with a political message, a few years after the annexation of Crimea by Russia.
