On this occasion, the Museum will offer its adult visitors two new presentations on “Hidden stories of the Diaspora” and “Digital Acropolis Museum. Presentation on “Hidden Dispersal Stories”
It is world-famous that almost half of the Parthenon sculptures are in the British Museum in London, as a result of the looting of the monument by the crews of Thomas Bruce, Lord Elgin, in the early 19th century. There are, however, smaller fragments and other antiquities of the Acropolis, which today are scattered in various European museums. But how did they get there, what were their adventures and who starred in them? The archaeologists of the Museum give the answers and invite you to discover with them the not so well known, stories of the dispersal of some of the most important works of the Acropolis.

Participation: Registrations are made on the day of the presentation at the Museum Information Office. Up to 30 visitors per presentation. First come first served.
The presentation will continue every Sunday from 22/5 to 18/12 (11:00 in English and 13:00 in Greek).

On the same day, the free distribution of the publication “The sculptures of the Parthenon. 6 short separation stories “for children and families. Our little visitors go up to the 3rd floor of the Museum, in the Parthenon Hall. There, the most famous sculptures of the world are waiting for them! But not all… Some of them are elsewhere… Where, when, how and why they will discover it through the adventures of six famous sculptures contained in the form. At the end, the children describe with drawings and words the feelings that the separation of the sculptures gives them in the special pages of the publication and leave them in the Museum. The form is available at the Information Office, on the ground floor of the Museum. In the same space, the children leave the pages with their feelings, after the completion of their exploration.
Presentation on “Digital Acropolis Museum. New interactive applications »
As part of the “Creation of a Digital Acropolis Museum” project, the Museum has developed, among other things, a series of interactive applications installed on touch screens, which, however, remain inactive due to health protocols to limit the spread of coronavirus. However, on May 18 the screens open for three hours and our archaeologists will be there to present, for the first time, innovative digital applications, which highlight the multifaceted aspects of the Museum’s exhibits, offer unique experiences in its exhibition spaces and create a new, exciting world for young and old.
