Dira Paes vibrates with the success of ‘Pantanal’: ‘Breathe of a polarized Brazil’

by

Talking about “Pantanal” and, especially, about her character, Filó, makes Dira Paes smile from ear to ear. The actress, 52, is, of course, happy with the success of the plot, originally by Benedito Ruy Barbosa, and signed by the author’s grandson, Bruno Luperi, in the Globo remake.

“It’s as if we needed that breath at this moment in a polarized Brazil. It’s the breath. We missed being identified with a soap opera. ‘Pantanal’ rescued that. I feel the public’s adhesion on the streets”, she begins.

Dira admits that Filó is the portrait of a woman, with a hint of submissiveness, not unlike those she knows throughout Brazil, in the countryside and in the city. Very different from Alice, her character in Globoplay’s “As Five” series.

“The cool thing is that it’s just the same hair (laughs). My son even said: ‘mom, you need to change your hair’. I’m not much for changes. I confess. But, the two are absolutely different characters and, without no doubt, women who own their opinions and accomplishments”, he delivers. Dira vibrates when talking about the lesbian character and taker of the production of the streaming platform.

“Alice is that impactful thing. We mature in our careers and we want to, seeking to be able to communicate with the now and no longer with the past. This invitation fits like a glove for this moment that I wanted and that we are expanding and giving voice to such a huge diversity in a country like Brazil. People came to thank me for this representative look”, he explains.

Due to the recordings of ‘Pantanal’, the actress has been involved much less than she would like with the problems involving the indigenous cause in Brazil. She even warned of a war such as is happening in Ukraine on our territory.

“I have been following the drama of the Yanomami, but today I am not able to say that something has happened, for example. my networks keep me informed. It’s as if we were at war like in Ukraine and we don’t give that visibility, we don’t give the visibility of a national conflict. The defense of a cause depends on our knowledge and affection. It’s necessary to know Brazil to defend it”, she points out.

Dira, it’s not new, he likes to take a political stand. You know the importance of raising flags. “I have a very clear political position and everyone who knows me clearly knows what it is. I am in favor of Human Rights and I will always be fighting for these causes. I can say that we are very optimistic about what will happen in the next elections and I’m sure Brazil doesn’t want this runaway Brazil”, completes the actress.
