93-year-old James Hong gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Actor, producer and director James Hong acquired a star on the Avenue of His Glory Hollywoodin Los Angeles after six decades of film career.

The Chinese-American actor, who has starred in 469 TV series, 149 feature films, 32 short films and 22 video games and has co-starred with stars such as Clark Gable to become the oldest star to earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I am here! I am alive!” The 93-year-old told the audience at the ceremony, adding that he had not planned a speech because he was not used to it, according to an article in the LA Times.

The actor was talked about by Hollywood stars, Jamie Lee Curtis, Daniel Dae Kim.

Kim pointed out that the names of actors from Asia and the Pacific islands on the Hollywood Walk of Fame make up less than 1% and that the Hong star is added to those of Anna May Wong, Mako, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu.

“Although this number is very low,” Kim said, “it underscores the fact that we must honor each and every one of us who has had the good fortune to be recognized.”

Curtis praised Hong as a “passionate performer” and “a hilarious filming presence,” adding: “It’s time to honor James Hong with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

Born in Minnesota, Hong began his career in the early 1950s and describes himself as “probably the only living guy to have worked with Groucho Marx.”
