The Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni, on the occasion of the celebration of the International Museum Day, stated:
“The celebration of International Museum Day, which was established in our country by the Greek Department of ICOM in 1984, mobilizes, every year, museums, all over Greece, to welcome the public and organize various events, highlighting their collections and activities. Large and small museums, of all categories, respond, in an attractive way, to the theme set each year by the International Council of Museums, linking the current social situation with the demands of the times. Museums prove to serve society and its development, two goals that are essentially linked to their own future.
This year’s theme “The Power of Museums” is important and particularly interesting, as it touches on many areas, focusing on education and lifelong learning, sustainable development and innovation, while, at the same time, presents museums as meeting and communication spaces that is our constant pursuit.
The International Museum Day is honored this year with events that spread throughout Greece, proving their dynamics and the dedication of the people who serve them. The honored body is the Metropolitan Organization of Museums of Fine Arts of Thessaloniki / MOMus, which is based on the practical unification of the forces of five museums, as a body supervised by the Ministry of Culture. MOMus places Thessaloniki, with a positive development sign, in the global constellation of modern art museums “.
