The Greek Parliament illuminated the facade of its building tonight with the symbolic logo-message for the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of the Greeks of Pontus.
The building depicts the anniversary symbol of the struggle for the International Recognition of the Pontian Genocide (G from the international term Genocide).
In the Constitution Dozens of people took part in the anniversary events organized by the Pampontian Federation of Greece with banners, flags, Pontian costumes, T-shirts with the G (from the genocide). Top moment of the events, well-dressed people dressed in Pontian costume perform the official change of the Presidential Guard, at the monument of the Unknown Soldier.
Representatives of Pontian organizations and the state leadership of the country laid wreaths at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, while Pontian songs were heard and the yahs of the dancers from the pyrrhic dance serra.
“Today is more urgent than ever the international recognition of the Genocide of the Greeks of Pontus” said in his greeting the governor of Attica George Patoulis who earlier in a twitter post wrote: “None of us forgets the atrocity!”.
The president of the Pambodian Federation (WTO) George Varythymiadis stated that “we will never bend” and stressed that “the WTO is openly against the war, wherever it is conducted, by whomever it is provoked”.
The events were attended by the Metropolitan of Paphos, George, from Cyprus, who spoke about the Pontian Genocide and reminded that Cyprus and Pontus have many common features.
After the events, a procession started to the Turkish embassy, ​​to deliver a protest resolution.
The Day of Remembrance for the Genocide of Pontian Hellenism was established in 1994 by a unanimous decision of the Greek Parliament and is celebrated every year on May 19.
