EODY recommends a 21-day quarantine for the close contacts of smallpox.
The protocol already existed as it is already a known disease however it is an incorporation of the ECDC guidelines.
Case definition
- Confirmed case
A person with laboratory confirmation of monkey pox virus infection through PCR1 test, which has symptoms starting from March 1, 2022 onwards.
- Possible case
(1) A person with a rash of unknown etiology on any part of the body
AND
one or more symptoms of monkey pox from 1 March 2022 onwards:
– fever (usually high> 38.5 ° C)
– headache
– back pain
– fatigue
– lymphadenopathy (localized or generalized)
AND
one of the following:
– positive result in a test for viruses of the genus Orthopoxvirus2
– epidemiological link with confirmed or possible case of monkey pox within 21 days before the onset of symptoms
– reported travel history to countries endemic for smallpox in the 21 days prior to the onset of symptoms
– a person (of any sexual orientation) who has had multiple or unknown sexual partners in the 21 days before the onset of symptoms
The
(2) A person with a rash of unknown etiology, generalized or localized, maculopapular or vesicular / blistering with a centrifugal distribution, with lesions showing a submerged center of the umbilicus or grid (crust)

AND
one or more of the other symptoms associated with smallpox in monkeys:
– fever (usually high> 38.5 ° C)
– headache
– back pain
– fatigue
