Brazil recorded 398 deaths from Covid and 19,842 cases of the disease, this Tuesday (23). With that, the country reached 613,240 lives lost and 22,038,731 infections by Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The high number of cases is explained, in part, by the record of 8,273 infections in PiauĂ. Also, on Sundays. Mondays and holidays there are fewer records, due to notification delays in the health departments, which, consequently, can impact the data on Tuesday.

The moving averages of deaths and cases are in balance, that is, with no variation greater than 15% compared to data from two weeks ago. The average of deaths is now 245 deaths daily and that of infections is 10,634.

Country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between sheet, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and publish the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.

Vaccination data against Covid-19, also collected by the consortium, were updated in 25 states and the Federal District.

Brazil registered 1,270,648 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Tuesday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 152,546 first doses and 737,180 second. 383,967 booster doses were also recorded.

This Tuesday, there was a negative record of single doses (-3,045). This was due to dose revisions in CearĂ¡ (-2099), Minas Gerais (-1699) and RondĂ´nia (-13).

In all, 158,201,793 people have received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil —125,859,723 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizing agent. Added to the single doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid, there are already 130,437,478 people with two doses or one dose of Janssen’s vaccine.

Thus, the country already has 74.16% of the population with the 1st dose and 61.15% of Brazilians with two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine. Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 97.60% and 80.47% .

Even those who received two doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distance, experts say.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles took place in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and took information off the air, with the interruption of the dissemination of total cases and deaths. In addition, the government released conflicting data.
