Unvaccinated people with heart failure were also 15% more likely to need hospitalization after coronavirus infection and were almost twice as likely to be admitted to the ICU.
Patients with heart failure who have not been vaccinated against it coronavirusare three times more likely to die from Covid-19 than those vaccinated and boosted, according to a new american scientific research.
Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, led by Associate Professor of Cardiology Anuranda Lala, conducted the relevant publication In the Journal of Cardiac Failure, they analyzed data on 7,094 patients with heart failure, of whom 31% had received two doses of vaccine, 15% three doses, 9% one dose and 45% had unvaccinated.
Vaccinated and single-dose vaccines were found to be three times more likely to die from complications of Covid-19. They were also 15% more likely to need hospitalization after coronavirus infection and were almost twice as likely to be admitted to the ICU as those who had taken three doses.
Many patients with heart failure, according to the study, show a reluctance to get vaccinated, fearing possible rare side effects such as myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle), but the risk of coronavirus is much higher.
“The findings further emphasize that patients with heart failure should take the vaccine seriously, as it has a worse outcome if infected with Covid-19,” said Dr. Lala.
