Tzanakis on SKAI: These are the most characteristic symptoms of Omicron 5

by

“On average we will see 20-22 thousand cases” said the professor about the time the peak of the wave will last

Speaking to SKAI and on the “Mismatched” show, pulmonology professor Nikos Tzanakis mentioned the most frequently reported symptoms of those infected with the Omicron 5 variant, as well as the general epidemiological picture.

As he said, the most characteristic symptom reported by the patients who got sick with Omicron 5 is the pain in the back and legs but also in general muscle pains in joints and bones. “Many report that they cannot climb the stairs,” added Mr. Tzanakis.

At the same time, he said that some people develop a fever for 3 days or have a severe headache. However, the professor emphasized that the symptoms related to the lung are missing.

“I have attended 200 cases in the last month and my impression is that things are very good in terms of symptomatology. The symptoms are indeed annoying but transitory. A few had developed a little pneumonia. We don’t have a particular problem with the lungs, the admissions are people who have other diseases which are also burdened by the infection”, said the professor characteristically.

Regarding the course of the pandemic, he stated that the climax, which based on the epidemiological models is calculated between July 15-25. “On average we will see 20-22 thousand cases”, added Mr. Tzanakis

He said that the gradual de-escalation is beginning in many regional units in the country that “boiled with cases”, such as Mykonos, Santorini, Heraklion as the contagiousness index has fallen below unity, which he said means that there is a recession.

However, he said that cases will remain high in August as well, as social conditions “do not allow for much optimism”. He described the summer as “hot” in terms of cases but emphasized that the situation is manageable mainly in ICUs.
