In intangible prescription drugs for HIV – Right of foster parent and in patients with AIDS or hepatitis B

by

Two provisions that are discriminatory and were a constant request of HIV patients were proposed by the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, in the Plenary Session of the Parliament, today, World AIDS Day.

“There has been a struggle from all mankind, from the first moment that this disease existed, and science has reached a point where it is dealing as much as possible with the consequences of this disease. “However, even today there is a lot of discrimination against people who are HIV-positive and there is a perception and we have not yet managed as a society to eliminate discrimination against these people,” said the Minister of Health.

“Today there will definitely be a heated debate on both the amendments and the bill itself. I have the honor, however, to propose two provisions that have been a constant request of HIV patients, HIV-positive patients. The state is coming today, on the day of the fight against AIDS, to vote for them and I believe that in these two provisions there will be a unanimous decision. The provisions, which I suggest with the full guidance of the Prime Minister and after meetings with the patients’ association and the patients themselves, are that we legislate the full integration of antiretroviral drugs in intangible and electronic prescribing and allow individuals to become foster parents. suffering from either HIV or hepatitis B, provided that they are receiving treatment or have completed treatment. This is a social issue because these people were excluded from the contract, although there was no scientific data to justify such a thing “, added Mr. Plevris.

“On this World AIDS Day, it is the duty of Parliament to show that such self-evident issues can be viewed with sympathy and voted on,” he said.
