E-Cigarettes: Probably Associated With Erection Problems – What US Research Has Shown

by

E-cigarettes may be linked to an increased chance of erectile dysfunction in men, according to a new US scientific study. Traditional smoking has long been linked to erectile dysfunction and now new research shows that something similar can happen with e-cigarettes (vaporization).

Researchers from the University of New York School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, who published the study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, analyzed data from 13,711 men.

Compared to those who had never used an e-cigarette, daily vaporizers were 2.2 times more likely to have erectile dysfunction and 2.4 times more likely to be 20-65 years old (in normal weight people without cardiovascular disease). Exercise vaporizers were less likely to have erectile dysfunction.

Scientists have pointed out that since e-cigarette use appears to be associated with erectile problems regardless of age, cardiovascular disease or other risk factors for erectile dysfunction, vaporizers should be aware of the possible link between e-cigarettes and dysfunction. of this species, which occur in about one-fifth of men over the age of 20.

“Since many people use e-cigarettes as a form of harm reduction from smoking or to help quit smoking, we need to study in depth the relationship between vaporizers and erectile dysfunction, as well as their potential effects on men’s sexual health. “Our findings highlight the need for further research,” said lead researcher, Assistant Professor Omar El Sahawi of New York University and NYU Langone Medical Center.
