Mental Health: Vita Alere and Instagram launch free course on mental health on social networks

by

The Vita Alere Institute for Suicide Prevention and Posvenção launches, in partnership with Instagram, the free Digital Wellness course for health professionals.

The objective is to equip workers in the area to identify and guide patients and their families in relation to the use of social media, internet, technologies and their influences on mental health.

The course is virtual, with all classes recorded, and consists of ten modules: digital anamnesis, vulnerabilities and help plans, online violence, healthy use of technology, how to deal with the use of technology in childhood and adolescence, problematic use of interactive media: psychological consequences and treatment in real life, clinical understanding of the use of digital media, self-harm on the internet, LGPD (General Personal Data Protection Law) and ethics in social networks, technological dependence in children and adolescents.

In addition to these lectures, there are two extra videos: how to prepare for the metaverse and self-care and healthy use (for professionals).

Registration must be done through the website bemestar.digital. All those who complete the course and complete the initial and final assessments will be approved and receive a certificate. The student will have three months to complete the contents.

“It is essential that professionals pay attention to the patient’s digital life, ask, evaluate and advise on its use. It is necessary to know if any type of problematic use is happening by the patient or family”, explains psychologist Karen Scavacini, CEO of Vita Alere.

When assisting a person, says Scavacini, the professional should include in his anamnesis questions about his relationship with digital tools and know how to recognize physical, social and psychological signs if this interaction may be affecting mental health in some way.

Some behaviors that reveal that there is something wrong are when the patient is irritated when asked about the use of these digital tools, when he consumes negative content or news as a form of entertainment, needs external validation from social media to feel valued or belonging to others. a group, or check notifications constantly, for example.

Natália Paiva, Instagram public policy leader in Latin America, explains that the support for the course is part of the A Internet Que a Gente Faz initiative, a partnership between Instagram and Facebook and Contente, a content platform for a more conscious digital life , with Safernet, a civil association focused on the promotion and defense of human rights, and with Vita Alere itself.

“The idea is to think about how we can have a healthier relationship with the internet”, he says.

Paiva recalls that since December 2019, Instagram has been developing actions in this direction, such as Digital Sem Pressure, in partnership with Safernet and content creators to discuss positive ways to use social networks.

“But for much longer, depending on searches and what the user writes on the platform, Instagram has been connecting people with entities such as the CVV (Centro de Valorização da Vida) and Astral (Brazilian Association of Eating Disorders). we have time management tools in the app, to restrict harmful content and the option to show or not the likes of the posts, for example”, highlights Paiva.
