During the week of November 29 to December 5, 2021, there were declining trends, compared to the week of November 22 to 28, 2021, in the average weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in the urban wastewater of eight of the thirteen (8/13) areas were tested by the National Network of Sewage Epidemiology (EDEL) of EODY.
At the same time, stabilizing trends were observed in five of the thirteen (5/13) areas of EDEL.
Net reduction of viral load was observed in Rethymno (-42%), Larissa (-44%), Ioannina (-68%), Patras (-69%) and Agios Nikolaos (-73%), while it was marginal the decrease observed in Thessaloniki (-19%), Xanthi (-27%) and Alexandroupolis (-30%).
The viral load of urban wastewater remained virtually stable in Corfu (+ 9%), Heraklion (-4%), Volos (-7%), Chania (-8%) and Attica (-10%).
The samples come from the Attica Region and the cities of Thessaloniki, Larissa, Volos, Heraklion, Chania, Rethymnon, Agios Nikolaos Lassithi, Patras, Xanthi, Alexandroupolis, Ioannina and Corfu.
The samples are taken from the entrances of the local Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWUs) and correspond to the population served by them.
