The Omicron variant is still more than 90% prevalent – Last week the first case of Centaur was detected in our country
Last week he was spotted in Greece the first case of the “Centaur” subvariant. A week later, in his last report EODY for the pandemic in our country, two more cases of the Centaurus subvariant were announced, which, according to scientists, is the most contagious version of Omicron.
The two new cases are indicative of the spread of the new strain, as they were detected in a sample of 197 randomly or targeted cases in the period from August 21 to September 13.
In more detail, the relevant paragraph from the EODY announcement:
This report includes analysis results from the National SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Network, which operates under the coordination of the EODY, from 197 samples that have been selected randomly or targeted and relate to the period August 21, 2022 to September 13, 2022. Omicron strain (B.1.1.529) was isolated from all samples.
Two of them were identified as its sub-variant BA.2 (BA.2.75).
Since the inception of the National SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Network to date, 28 different strains of special interest/under investigation/under surveillance or other strains of interest of SARS CoV-2 have been isolated from 61,668 sequenced samples (60,935 originating from domestic cases and 733 from imported cases).
During the two months prior to September 13, 2022, the two most frequent subvariants of the Omicron strain isolated from domestic randomly sampled samples were BA.5 at 91.9%, followed by BA.4 at 4.7 %.
