The proposal of Greece and Cyprus “passed” in the EU so that once the new vaccines (O4 and O5) are released, the availability of vaccines against O1 will be stopped.

From the beginning October it will be possible to vaccinate vulnerable groups and those over 60 with the updated vaccines against the O4 and O5 coronavirus mutations. This is what the Minister of Health reported to the Parliament, Thanos Pleuris, in the context of a discussion of a topical question by SYRIZA MP Meropis Tzoufis on the “non-payment of salaries of those employed at the Vaccination Centers”, in which the issue of booster vaccines was also raised.

According to the health minister, people are currently being vaccinated with the updated O1 vaccines and we aim to have the O4 and O5 vaccines available in the first week of October to vaccinate the population for whom there are relevant guidelines (vulnerable groups and citizens over 60). As Mr. Pleuris noted, despite the willingness of the producer company to run out of vaccines against O1 first, the proposal of Greece and Cyprus passed to the Council of Health Ministers of the EU so that once the new vaccines (O4 and O5) are released, the availability of O1 vaccines.

During the discussion of her question, Ms. Tzouffi asked for data on cases in the student population after the opening of schools, citing evidence of a resurgence of the pandemic and emphasizing that childhood vaccination is at lower rates than in other countries EU.

The minister pointed out that our country is not an “island”, emphasizing that all European countries opened their schools like us.
