The Professor of Pulmonology and Intensive Care, Theodoros Vasilakopoulos, referred to scientific data that confirm the importance of the third dose and the first indications for the “behavior” of the Omicron variant, speaking to SKAI and the show “Simer”
The professor pointed out that based on studies by the most prestigious journal of Medicine, the New England Journal of Medicine, it was shown that the 3rd dose reduces the chance of death by 90-95%, while depending on the age group each belongs to, reduces the chance of someone stuck 15-20 times.
“The third dose is the ultimate tool so that you do not see people vaccinated in the ICU, you see only a few dead and to fully restore people’s confidence in the vaccine,” said the professor.
Regarding the Omicron variant, he explained that the data show that it will probably be more contagious, while on the other hand the preliminary data of an epidemiological nature show that it probably does not lead to a more serious disease, with a real possibility that it leads to even milder.
“If this scenario is confirmed, in 2-3-4 weeks, we are on a good path. The virus as the pandemic passes and changes will become more contagious, but it will be blocked by vaccines and we will care much less if it causes a mild illness. “If this is proven and it develops like this, it will slowly leave us because we will be vaccinated”, the professor stated characteristically, however, adding that it is dangerous to make predictions.
He said that based on the WHO there will be sufficient vaccines for the entire population of the planet until the first half of 2022
Regarding the complaint about “closed” ICUs for VIPs, he said that he is not aware of such incidents in his own hospital, while he clarified that there is a whole system from the moment someone is intubated and that safety valves are too many and work
