USP (University of São Paulo) removed from the system the grade and attendance record of 275 students who did not prove that they had been vaccinated with at least two doses against Covid-19.

In August 2021, the university’s rectory published an ordinance in which it was mandatory to present the vaccination card, with at least two doses, for the face-to-face return. The determination applies to students, faculty and staff.

In a note, USP reported that the withdrawal of the notes is in accordance with the “guidelines and regulations” approved for the return of face-to-face activities. The undergraduate services of the teaching and research units were notified of the removal of the data on September 26th.

“Validation of the vaccination status was carried out by the undergraduate services. In August, the Dean of Graduate Studies carried out a survey of students who were irregular (they had no proof of vaccination, but they obtained attendance and/or grades recorded)”, says a note. of the institution.

Also according to USP, the number of students with an irregular situation tends to decrease. “There are students who are presenting the vouchers now, after the withdrawal of the records, although they were vaccinated a long time ago”, he says.

The university also highlighted that the number of those who disrespected the rule is small compared to the student community. The 275 students without proof of vaccination represent 0.45% of the undergraduate student body, which has more than 60,000 students.

In addition to USP, other state and federal universities have decided to require proof of vaccination. The demand was supported by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), after an attempt by the Jair Bolsonaro government (PL) to ban educational institutions from requiring the vaccination of their students.
