by

The new unit of special infections of the AHEPA hospital was inaugurated on Friday by the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, together with the Deputy Minister of Health, Mina Gaga. Mr. Plevris expressed his inflation for the epidemiological situation in the Co-Capital.

“At the moment Thessaloniki is still the big problem, the pressure is great”, the minister noted characteristically, and added “In other areas there seems to be a de-escalation, Athens seems to be in a better situation than we expected, the pressure its more in non covid cases. We hope that with the models we have, there seems to be de-escalation even in Thessaloniki and little by little we hope that there will be de-escalation in the health system as well. The measures we have already taken have greatly increased vaccinations. Let me inform you that 90,000 of our fellow citizens over the age of 60 who have not been vaccinated have closed or have had the first dose of vaccination, are the people who are basically in the ICU beds. In this sense our philosophy will remain the same measures will concern people who are not vaccinated. We consider these measures to be sufficient, any measure needed on the basis of the pandemic will be taken but in this sense. Restriction of activity to the unvaccinated, not restriction of activity to the vaccinated “.

In his statements, Mr. Plevris spoke about a model unit for the treatment of Nosocomial Infections. “I feel happy next door, because in our country the problem remains the large number of Nosocomial Infections. Such actions lay a stepping stone to strengthening the national health system for the next day which should be an NAP with the logistics infrastructure and the staff it deserves to provide the best possible services. “This unit will help reduce Nosocomial Infections”, stressed Mr. Plevris in his statements. According to the Minister of Health, from the auxiliary staff that has been strengthened with 12,000 positions and 2,000 positions of permanent doctors, at the same time the announcements are for 4,000 positions of nursing staff, 910 positions of other staff and there will be announcements for medical staff.

“With the Deputy Minister, Mina Gaga, we have all the planning to give as many positions as needed, so that our National Health System is well staffed”, stressed Mr. Plevris.

The fully equipped new Special Infections Unit, which has eight beds, is ready to receive its first patients. The Unit, which will cover the Special Infections Department of AHEPA, was created in an independent auxiliary space of the Hospital, which was renovated thanks to donations.

In the first phase, aseptic patients will be transferred to the new Unit, but it can also be used for patients with Covid and as an Intensive Care Unit.

The “present” at the inauguration were given by, among others, the Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia – Thrace), Stavros Kalafatis, the mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, the governors of the 3rd and 4th health districts, Dimitris Tsalikakis and Panagiotis Bogiatzidis and others.

“At the moment Thessaloniki is still the big problem, the pressure is great”, the minister noted regarding the pandemic and added “In other areas there seems to be a de-escalation, Athens seems to be in a better situation than we expected, its pressure is more on non covid cases.
