Two out of three Brazilians (65%) are in favor of commercial establishments and other places requiring proof of vaccination against Covid as a condition for customers to visit the place, according to a survey carried out by the CNI (National Confederation of Industry). The survey was carried out between the 18th and 23rd of November.
Only 22% are against this practice. Data show, however, that this requirement is not yet widespread. Only 18% of people who responded to the survey had to prove vaccination in any of the places they attended in the previous three months.
The poll was conducted before the so-called vaccine passport entered the center of debate in Brazil, after it was determined that travelers must present it in order to enter the country.
The desire to be on guard against the coronavirus also appears in another data from the survey: 66% of respondents are afraid to live daily with people who have not taken any of the doses of the vaccine.
The research, which was carried out before the new variant of the coronavirus, omicron, was discovered, also showed that the fear of going to public places is lower among the unvaccinated, especially among people who have not received any dose of vaccine.
While 65% of fully immunized Brazilians have some fear of going to concerts and events, the percentage drops to 39% among those who have not taken any dose of the immunizing agent.
Overall, this is the activity that most arouses some kind of fear among respondents, considering whether they are immunized or not. Sixty-one percent of them say they have a very big (16%), big (22%) or average (23%) fear of going to concerts or events.
Face-to-face work is the activity that least frightens the interviewees: 23% say they are very scared (8%) or very scared (15%), and 27% say the fear is medium.
Regarding the use of masks, 66% of those who no longer use protection are in favor of ending the obligation, while 25% are against it. Among those who maintain the routine everywhere, 56% are against the end of the obligation and 30% are in favor.
Of all respondents, 36% say they will continue using the protective mask in some situations, 35% will continue using them even after they are no longer mandatory, and 28% will stop using them once they are cleared by the health authorities. Two percent had no opinion.
“Economic growth, the generation of jobs and income will be more intense as we manage to end the pandemic. Mass vaccination was crucial to contain the spread of the virus. In this sense, the CNI supports all measures that help in the fight to Covid-19”, commented the president of the confederation, Robson Braga de Andrade, in the release of the results.
In all, 2016 people aged 16 and over were interviewed in person, using tablets, by the FSB Pesquisa Institute in 26 states and the Federal District. The margin of error in the total sample is two percentage points, with a 95% confidence interval. The sample was controlled based on sex, age, region and education quotas.
After the research, a weighting factor was applied to correct any distortions in relation to the
sampling plan. Due to rounding, the sum of the percentages can vary from 99% to 101%.
