Brazil recorded 41 deaths from Covid and 16,089 cases of the disease this Wednesday (16). With that, the country reaches 688,811 lives lost and 34,980,074 infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

The moving average of deaths is 28 per day, down 43% compared to two weeks ago. The moving average of cases is now at 8,722 per day, up 82% over the same period.

Alagoas, Amapá, Espírito Santo, Paraná and Sergipe registered no deaths. In Mato Grosso do Sul and Rondônia there was no record of deaths or infected by the coronavirus in 24 hours.

The data for the country, collected until 8 pm, are the result of a collaboration between SheetUOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and publish figures related to the new coronavirus pandemic.

The information is collected daily by the consortium of press vehicles with the state Health Secretariats.

The press vehicle consortium stopped updating the numbers of vaccinated against Covid-19 on weekends and holidays. On weekdays, the data is updated normally. The measure aims to avoid inaccuracies in the numbers reported to the reader.

The initiative by the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the actions of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and withdrew information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of total cases and deaths.
