The state government and the São Paulo City Hall will resume the mandatory use of a mask in public transport, starting this Saturday (26), due to the increase in the number of cases of Covid-19.
The announcement was made this Thursday afternoon (24) and the decision follows a technical analysis by the Management Council of the State Secretariat for Science, Research and Development in Health against the advancement of cases of infected by the new coronavirus.
The decree with the new regulations will be published in the State Official Gazette this Friday (25) and will apply to buses, trains and subways.
On Tuesday (22), Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) had already determined the mandatory mask in airports and planes. The rule applies from this Friday.
The use of masks ceased to be mandatory on public transport on September 9, but will be resumed due to the new advance of Covid-19.
“The government recommends that the measure be adopted by all municipalities in the state and reiterates that it is essential that the population has the complete vaccination cycle to ensure greater protection against the coronavirus and reinforces that the only way to mitigate the effects of the virus is to guarantee immunization with doses that are available at all health posts in the state”, says the state government, in a note.
Last Monday (21), the city hall started distributing masks at the city’s 32 bus terminals.
The action, which takes place from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and aims to raise awareness of the prevention and combating of the spread of the coronavirus, will continue next week.
So far, more than 350,000 masks have been distributed, according to management Ricardo Nunes (MDB).
In six terminals (Santo Amaro, Vila Nova Cachoeirinha, Sacomã, Parque Dom Pedro, Itaquera and Pinheiros), vaccination against Covid-19 for the population over 3 years old also takes place at the same time. Until this Thursday (24), 3,715 doses were applied in these places.
