Pagoni on Kraken: “It’s very contagious compared to the other subvariants because it belongs to the Omicron group”
The discovery in our country (Attica) of the first six cases of the mutation of “Kraken” coronavirus.
Clarifications on the mutation were given by EINAP president Matina Pagonis to Mega and Johns Hopkins University professor Panagis Galiatsatos to ERT.
“It is very contagious compared to the other subvariants, because it belongs to the Omicron group. The good thing is that her symptoms are simple, like a cold… the important thing is how he doesn’t get pneumonia” noted the president of EINAP, Matina Pagonis.
Asked about the drugs with which we can treat the virus, she initially pointed out that we should not take antibiotics.
“Those over 60 can take the antiviral because they have underlying diseases, from then on, we wear our mask and are isolated for a few days,” he explained.
Mrs. Pagoni emphasized the great need for specialists which exists in all the clinics of the “Gennimatas” hospital. In fact, for this reason the hospital staff will go on strike next Tuesday.
“We have asked and tried to solve the problem from the administration and we will proceed to the ministry as well” added Mrs. Pagoni.
“Right now with this new Kraken sub-variant or XBB.1.5, which belongs to the Omicron family, we know two things for sure. First, it is more contagious. The genetic changes we saw have the potential to make the variant more transmissible. In the last six weeks here, especially in the USA, it has become the dominant subvariant,” the Johns Hopkins University professor emphasized to ERT. Panagis Galiatsatos.
“Because of this percentage, yes, we can say that genetically there is a higher probability as well to have increased transmissibility. It also means it starts to evade the immune system. So for some people who had covid in the fall, they can get sick again, due to the ability of the mutations of the variant to reinfect” noted Mr. Galiatsatos.
