The proposal to revise the legislation on the adequacy of medicines is planned for March and will include stronger obligations to supply, earlier notification of shortages and withdrawals and enhanced transparency of stocks, Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou stressed, speaking to the plenary of the European Parliament.
“Our goal remains to ensure access to medicines for all patients who need them and to avoid any disruption of the EU medicines market” underlined Stella Kyriakidou.
Regarding COVID19, he said that the EU is closely monitoring the situation in China, but also in the US where a new sub-variant has appeared.
Finally, the European Commissioner underlined that vaccination against respiratory viruses remains the best tool so that citizens are safe and at the same time health systems are protected.
